The 2012 Series rules, awards, cash prizes and so forth will be announced in March/April timeframe, we are working on exciting prizes and finalizing the 4th event possibly held on 7/14. We will once again have an exciting race schedule with great competition and prizes.
The 2011 Epic Series Final Standings have been updated. Congratulations to all the racers, there were some great point battles for the top prizes. Winners of the overall standings are Lea Stralka (Womens Short Distance), Natasha Hernday (Womens Long Distance), Rick Heckenlaible (Mens Short Distance) and Logan Wetzel (Mens Long Distance).
The Overall Points can be found here, the category results can be found here.
Overall (not category specific) prizes (Cash for 1st place, Gift certs from Second Ascent for 2nd place and a Gregory Pack for 3rd place) are shown in the Overall Standings.
Awards for each category (Mens Open, Masters, Womens, Open Masters, and Singlespeed) are given to the top three racers, custom chrome plated license plates, you can see what they look like here. Email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you are one of the top three placed in a category and we ll get them to you. Rules and explanations (you may have different points overall vs. category) are explained below. Next year we are moving to a similar point system that the NUE Series uses, and we will update that in the wintertime. We are also working on hopefully expanding the series by one or two more races.
Categories
The races come in two types of distances:
- Short (30-50 Mile Distances)
- Long (60-100 Mile Distances)
Racers are classified into two age groups:
- Open (Age 44 and below)
- Master (Age 45 and above)
So for each gender, the categories in the series are Open Short, Master Short, Open Long and Master Long for a total of eight categories. In addition to these eight, we add two additional categories Singlespeed Short and Singlespeed Long that are not age or gender specific for a total of ten categories.
Participation
All riders are automatically included in the Northwest Epic Series standings.
Category Points
In each of these 10 categories, points are given to the top 10 finishers:
1st = 100 points, 2nd = 75 points, 3rd = 60 points, 4th = 50 points, 5th = 40 points
6th = 30 points, 7th = 20 points, 8th = 15 points, 9th = 10 points, 10th = 5 points
Stottlemeyer and Echo Valley Race count for 1x points, Capitol Forest Final Race counts for 1.5x points. Riders that collect points in short and long distances will participate in whichever category (long or short) they participated two out of the three races, if they participated in one each, they participate in the shorter series. Series points is calculated using the accumulative points of your best TWO out of three events. Series tie-breakers will be determined by the rider that places the highest at the last race.
For example, if a 35 year old female racer finished fifth place riding the Stottlemeyer 60 miler, she would collect 40 points. If she also raced the Echo Valley 60 miler and finished 4th place, she would collect 50 additional points for a total of 110 points in the "Women's Open Long" category. If however, she decides to ride the 30 miler at Echo Valley instead and finished also 4th place, her 110 points would count in the "Women's Open Short" category.
The racers that are ranked top 3 in each of these 10 categories will receive a custom award.
Overall Points
In addition to category points, we also tally points by grouping racers by distance and gender (disregarding Open/Master/Singlespeed distinctions) and awarding points to the top 10 finishers via the same point system above. In the system, the four groups are Men Short, Men Long, Women Short, Women Long. The racers that are ranked top 3 on overall points in these four groupings will receive prizes.
